I'm not sure if I will like the oil - can you tell me what it tastes like and how to use it?
The oil tastes very mild with a nutty flavour and has a light texture to it. Most people are pleasantly surprised when they try it. This is possibly because they have tried other oils that are not fresh and expect a bitter rancid taste. High Barn Oils Linseed oil is always pressed in small amounts so you always get the freshest, most superior tasting oil possible.
We recommend mixing it into porridge, smoothies and yoghurts. You could also make High Barn Oils famous Vinaigrette dressing to add some zest to your salad. Alternatively you can pour over vegetables, pasta or mash potatoes with the oil. The possibilities are endless just use your imagination.
Can I cook with the oil?
We recommend that you do not use the oil in cooking unless at very low temperatures. Ideally you should use the oil cold as suggested above and not cook at all with it. This way the goodness in the oil will not be destroyed.
How should I store the oil and how much do I need?
The oil needs to be kept in the fridge and used within 50 - 60 days of opening. You can also freeze the oil for up to 3-4 months. The average person in good health will only need a dessertspoon a day. If you are trying to help a complaint then you may need a bit more. Our bodies are generally very good at telling us how much we need! You should get through the oil in the recommended 50 - 60 days if using the above amounts. Remember though, you must get into the habit of taking High Barn Linseed Oil each day.
Why is there no best before date on the bottle?
You will notice that we place a small silver label with a press date on it. This lets you know when the oil was pressed, ensuring you get fresh oil all the time with the great taste that is associated with our oil. Far better than a bottle that has a long shelf life.
I have used Linseed Oil before and I noticed a bitter taste?
This is because the oil is rancid. Air and Oil react with each other and will cause the oil to get the bitter taste. Not nice! This is when the oil should be used for cricket bats or your woodwork - not you! It's very important to use the oil regularly so you consume your bottle quickly and don't waste your hard earned money.
What's the difference between the 120 Life Pods and the 150 Vege Pods?
The 120 Life pods are our original pods. They are a 1000mg with a marine gelatine sourced shell. The 150 Vege pods are 500mg in size and are made with a Tapioca starch shell. They are half the size due to the fact that the Tapioca starch is unable to stretch to a 1000mg. We recommend the Vege pods for Vegans, children who may be unhappy about taking oil or those following a special diet. The pods do not repeat on you like other Fish oil based capsules and both contain the same high quality Linseed oil as used in the Culinary Oil.
How many pods should I take a day?
If you are in good health we recommend 2 Life pods a day and 3-4 Vege Pods a day. Again you may want to increase the amount if you are treating a complaint until your body lets you know when it's happy. You can't overdose on them.
When can I expect my order?
We always try and dispatch your order within 48 hrs of receipt. Generally you can expect it to be within 24hrs by first class post or one of our couriers depending on the order. However we are always extremely busy the first couple of days of the month but endeavour to keep up our high standards of dispatch during this time.
Can my children take the Oil?
We recommend that everyone should be taking the oil, from pregnant mothers through to senior members of society! Children can benefit especially as it can help with concentration and that all important brain matter.
What about my dogs?
Dogs usually love the taste of the oil - it's not unusual for them to enjoy chewing on a pod or two! It can really help them with joint problems and it also promotes a glossy, silky coat. We recommend giving your four legged friend the culinary Linseed oil so they too get the freshest tasting oil available. They will love you even more for it!
